Installing the software on a server to serve attached PCs requires 2 additional steps

1.       Sharing the software on the server by mapping the network drive

2.       Installing a shortcut on the desktop.

This article contains information about installing the CDX software on a network.

Note: You will need to use the license key on the original DVD case to retrieve an activation code from CDX to unlock the software for each PC on which you intend to have students or instructors use the software.

Note: The server on which the software is installed does not need to be activated unless it is also being used by instructors or students as a workstation.

Note for ARK V4 users: You will need to make sure you have applied the CDX ARK Plus V4.11 Update to be able to configure your installation for LAN. This update is available from:

http://www.cdxhosting.com/cdxupdates/bin/cdxplus/arkplusupdate411.exe

Note: This download this 216 MegaBytes in size, and may take a considerable time to download. We recommend the use of a download manager when attempting to download this file.

You can configure CDX ARK Plus installed on a network server to support network attached PCs.  You should have installed the CDX software on the server, and selected "Server Install" during the install process.  To activate the software on the attached PCs you will need the activation code from CDX that accompanies each PC licence.  The server does not need an activation code unless it will also be used as a workstation.

Server configuration steps:

1. You can configure the server by running the Network Configuration program. It can be accessed by running the 'NetworkConfiguration.exe' program found in the CDX installation folder, the default location for this is C:\Program Files\CDX Global\CDX Ark Plus.  If you canot locate this file the software has been installed for a single PC.  Reinstall the software and select the "Server Install" option during installation.

Client post-installation steps:

2. Login to the client computer as a Local Administrator,

3. Create a network mapping to the CDX Ark+ installation folder share on the server,

4. This folder should contain the CDXPlusStart.exe file,

5. Right-click on the ‘CDXPlusStart.exe’ file and choose 'Send To' then 'Desktop (create shortcut)',

6. This will create a shortcut to CDX Ark+ on the client desktop,

7. Rename the shortcut to 'CDXPlusPC',

8. This shortcut can now be used to access the server installation of CDX Ark+,

9. Run the shortcut to activate this client instance,

10. Repeat this process for each client computer.

Change your settings:

1.
If you wish to make changes to your server settings (such as your default menu choice), or wish to close the CDX Lan Server, you can do this by again running the 'NetworkConfiguration.exe' program.

2. Your settings can't be edited while the server is running. You can do this by clicking on the 'Stop Server' button in the Network Configuration window, and then make changes by exposing the options by clicking on the 'Server Settings' button.
