CDX ARK+ Online: Activity Quizzes
What are "Find the Missing Word" activities?
These CDX ARK+ Online Activity activities are research activities that require the students to review the text content of the relevant topics and find the exact missing words indicated by the gap in the text provided.
What do the quizzes test? They are not designed to test the students' memory or their knowledge of the subject, they are designed to make students practice and confirm their ability to find and accurately record precise information when they need to. This is an important skill that they will need to have, for instance, to look up component specifications in workshop manuals.
How are the quizzes graded? If the student gives any answer other than the exact words in the referenced text, the system will mark it as wrong, because although the meaning of their word choice may be correct, that is not the objective of the exercise, and it is not the correct answer expected in this context. Alternate answers are not accepted, nor are spelling mistakes
How do I use these?
Although the objective of these activities is to have your students practice and demonstrate their research skills, the act of reading or re-reading the text during the process will also build and reinforce their knowledge of the subject matter. If you want to use this sort of test with more marking flexibility (for instance, to accommodate the special needs of a student with dyslexia), or to test your students' subject knowledge rather than just their research skills, then we recommend that you print out the appropriate CDX Handout Activity Sheets and mark them individually. The missing words in the automatically-scored CDX ARK+ Online quizzes are the same as those required to manually complete the CDX Handout Activity sheets located within the topics.
